Google introduces job search function

Google has launched its job search feature in Thailand, the fourth country in Asia-Pacific to see the product.

The moves aim to capitalise on growing job advertising opportunities, similar to Line’s Jobs, which was introduced eight months ago.

“Thailand is the fourth market in Asia after India, Singapore and Hong Kong,” said Saranee Boonritthongchai, head of consumer marketing for Google Thailand.

Globally, job searches is one of the highest-growth sectors for Google.

The new feature allows job seekers to simply find relevant job opportunities from many popular job-listing websites, online classifieds, and companies.

With the ability to narrow down results using smart filters, save listings, share them, and sign up for alerts, users can access the feature in Thai on the Search app on Android and iOS platforms, and Google Search on desktop and mobile.

Google has worked with a number of organisations to aggregate job position data from jobs provider partners to bring users over 100,000 jobs positions — including JobBKK.com, JobTopGun, Jobthai.com, LinkedIn, Scoutout.net, Linejobs.me, and Blognone.

Google is open to a third-party partner integrating data with its platform to enable better search results.

“Job search are two of the top search keywords in the Google search engine, and we enable job seekers to find jobs based on type, position, and location with notifications,” said Mr Saranee.

Google Thailand has seen 17% growth in the past 12 months from November 2017 in mobile searches for job and career queries compared with the previous 12 months before this period.

“We’re hoping the new immersive job search experience, in particular the mobile-friendly interface we built, will make it easier for Thais to find jobs more quickly and efficiently,” he said.

When users search for “jobs near me” or similar job-seeking queries, they will see a special module that can be expanded to a more immersive experience.

In April Line Thailand launched Line Jobs, using machine learning to match jobs and job seekers faster and more efficiently through a collaboration with the Labour Ministry. From June to October, Line Jobs helped graduates find 24,000 positions, accounting for income of 374 million baht.
