Merry Xmas from Bangkok Music Society
Bangkok Music Society will mark its 40th anniversary with a Christmas concert featuring the BMS Choir of 50 international singers at Siam Society, Asok Road, tomorrow at 7pm and again at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sukhumvit 50 (Soi Roemcharoen), on Saturday at 4pm.
The first part of the programme will feature J.S Bach’s Magnificat. First written in 1723 and later revised in 1733 when Bach was in Leipzig, this performance will be the later version in D Major with expanded orchestration of woodwind, three trumpets and timpani, making this a joyous as well as contemplative work for chorus and soloists during the Advent season.
The second half of the programme will present a collection of carols from around the world including African, South American and European compositions, one of which will be a world premiere. To round off the evening, the audience are invited to sing along with the choir in a short medley of well-known Christmas songs.
The choir will be again joined by the Immanuel String Orchestra of young people from the Klong Toey community as well as keyboard, woodwind, three trumpets and timpani. Directing the programme will be BMS music conductor, Saranya Saratham.
Bangkok Music Society is one of the oldest music groups in Thailand providing musical opportunities to people living in the city for more than 40 years.
