Have a getaway Gangnam-style (Psy pun intended) at Four Points by Sheraton Seoul, Gangnam.

STAY IN THE HEART OF SEOUL’S ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT

- STORY PORNCHAI SEREEMONGKONPOL

Well, the pun practically writes itself. If you want to Seoul search in a vibrant and f un l ocation with plenty of things to do, see, eat and shop, Four Points by Sheraton Seoul, Gangnam is an attractive choice. The 199-room property is centrally located and is a convenient stay, especially for shopaholics and foodies.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Within walking distance to major subway stations, Four Points stands 21-storeys-tall, overlooking a busy intersection. You’ll be greeted with cool artwork, including giant shiny apples by a Brazilian artist, from the moment you walk into the lobby, signifying that the place aims for a cool and fun vibe. The accommodation choices include Standard, Premier, Suite and Penthouses.

No-balcony Standard and Premier rooms come at a modest size of 23-25m², which may sound like shoe boxes to some but not so for me, thanks to the high ceiling. And if you’re lucky enough to stay in a corner room like I was, you’ll be treated to a sweeping view of the city and the busy intersection below.

There are separate cubicles for showers and toilet, which is electronic, but the wash basin is in the living/sleeping area. Those who are neat freaks may not like the layout as it runs the risk of puddles on the floor. Although modest in size, they have everything you need for a comfy stay and, when you’ll be out most of the time, all you really need is a comfortable bed.

Suites are bigger-sized at around 45m² with separate areas for living and sleeping and a proper bathroom. Two penthouses await those who live large. They are amply lit with natural lighting through high roofs that resemble that greenhouses and each features a private terrace.

STAYING IN

This doesn’t mean that those who stay in basic rooms would have to forego luxury as the hotel offers many on-site activities. The fitness centre on the sixth floor is open 24/7 with respectable amount of equipment whether you want cardio or weight training. From this floor, gents can walk up the spiral staircase to their sauna room while ladies can walk downstairs to theirs. They run proper self-service sauna facilities from 6am-9pm. Ladies are lucky to be able to luxuriate in their individual tubs. Gents can share two small pools; one with hot water and one to cool down in.

Start your day with a bountiful meal at the all-day dining Evolution restaurant where you can enjoy, besides the usual breakfast items, rocket salad drizzled in balsamic, made-to-order pho and a bowl of Korean porridge. Come back later for the a la carte menu, which features international dishes made with local ingredients. They have a PDR, as in private dining room suitable for family gatherings and business dinners. For a midday refreshment, stop by The Lounge & Bar for craft beer, coffee or wine. Business travellers aren’t left out either as there’s a meeting space on the second floor. You’re pretty much covered whether you’re here for business or pleasure.
