Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of chief conductor Alfonso Scarano will enhance the Valentine atmosphere with the “Romantic Symphony” concert at Mahidol University’s Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, on Friday at 7pm and Saturdayat 4pm.

The concert will feature a Romantic repertoire including Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No.4, nicknamed Romantic, that recalls the bucolic atmosphere of the Austrian countryside. Like Beethoven in his

Pastoral Symphony, Bruckner’s goal is to enshrine the love of nature in musical form.

The programme also features Ratri Pradap Dao, the first royal composition by King Prajadhipok; and the world premiere of Pixels, a newly commissioned work for saxophone and orchestra by New York-based emerging Thai composer Piyawat Louilarpprasert, who favours the traditional colours of the orchestra with a saxophone soloist in dynamic contrast.

Pixels will be delivered by the 22-year-old Pisol Manatchinapisit who performed in several saxophone festivals in Spain, Austria, France and Croatia and won many competitions in Switzerland, Taiwan, Japan and Thailand.

Tickets cost 400, 600, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 baht (half prices for students) and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major outlets (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456) and PMH Box Office (call 02-849- 6565/6 ext 6603/4 and 6624).
