Muncy earns Dodgers a walk-off win

-

LOS ANGELES: Max Muncy hit a gameending two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Dodgers a wild 11-10 victory over the Padres on Sunday.

After Corey Seager reached base on an error by Padres second baseman Luis Urias, Muncy worked an eightpitch at-bat before sending his two-run double to right. Muncy also hit a home run, while Russell Martin and AJ Pollock went deep as well.

Pedro Baez (6-2) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the victory. San Diego’s Kirby Yates (0-3) was trying for his third save of at least four outs. Hosmer hit a grand slam and drove in five runs for the Padres.

Manual Margot homered for the second straight game for San Diego. Padres starter Chris Paddack gave up six runs on six hits over four innings with one walk and six strikeouts.

At New York, Gio Urshela hit a tworun homer to spark a six-run third inning off David Price and the Yankees won 7-4 to complete a four-game sweep over the Red Sox.

The Yankees won their fifth straight and completed their first four-game sweep of the Red Sox since Aug 6-9, 2009.

The Red Sox dropped their eighth straight game and fell 14 1/2 games behind the Yankees in the American League East and 6 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay in the wild-card race.

The Yankees held a 1-0 lead on Aaron Judge’s first-inning homer and busted it open in a 28-minute inning that saw them get six straight two-out hits off Price (7-5).

Christian Vazquez and Michael Chavis hit back-to-back homers off JA Happ in the fifth for Boston.

At Chicago, new lead-off hitter Jason Heyward had a homer, triple and three RBIs, and Yu Darvish fired five sharp innings in the Cubs’ 7-2 win over Milwaukee to complete a three-game sweep.
