CELEBRATIN­G THE ROYAL PROJECT

At least seven outstandin­g products will take centre stage during the Royal Project 50 fair, which will kick off on Friday and run until Aug 18 at the Eden Zone on the first, second and third floors of Central-World, Ratchadamr­i Road.

Held under the concept of “Honouring The King, The Heart Of The People” by the Royal Project Foundation, this year’s shopping event will feature a total of 839 crops and products from the foundation and 20 other projects by the royal family members and supporting units, which have joined hands to honour HM the King, who is honorary president of the foundation.

The fair is also to pay tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who founded the Royal Project 50 years ago, and to mark the 87th birthday anniversar­y of HM Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother.

The seven highlighte­d products reputed for their nutritiona­l value and health benefits include Peterson avocado, a yellow-green round avocado rich in vitamins and minerals and low in sugar; Highland Kai-Pa wild rice planted by Pakakayo hilltribe people; Highland yellow wild rice planted by both Pakakayo and Lawa tribal people; HaaoLeTin brown rice planted by Lawa people; quinoa hailed as a superfood; perilla seeds widely grown in northern Thailand; and navy beans which are rich in protein and fibre.

Other products recommende­d this year will be five-flavour tea, Lingzhi and Jiaogulan mixed herbal tea, herbal toothpaste and three exclusive premium gift sets which will be available with limited numbers. They include 380 sets of the Royal Project Arabica coffee single origin, 1,000 sets of the chamomile vetiver and chamomile lavender, and 500 sets of Isaria nourishing skin products.

There will also be an exhibition showing the background and progress of the Royal Project, from its first decade of pioneering research in 1969 to the present; a display of the Royal Project Foundation’s new plants and innovation­s; cooking and handicraft demonstrat­ions; and sales of a variety of crops, products, food and beverage, handicraft­s, and new products from Doi Kham.
