FOLLOW HER VOICE

- — Tatat Bunnag

Anyone who missed her debut gig at Sathon’s Jam last year, the prolific American folk singer-songwriter and guitarist Julie Byrne is set to make a comeback at “HAVE YOU HEARD? Folk Series: Julie Byrne Live! By My Beer” on Aug 16 at the newly opened cultural hub Lido Connect, with special support from local acts including singer Duen Chongmankhong and indie rock group STOIC.

Hailing from Buffalo, New York, the 29-yearold is known for her unique finger picking style guitar playing, and her dreamy, smoky voice that has often been compared to cult folk

singers from the past such as Linda Perhacs, Vashti Bunyan and Karen Dalton.

Byrne released her debut studio album

Rooms With Walls And Windows in 2014, but hit the world stage when she released the sophomore record Not Even Happiness in 2017. She recorded the entire album in the basement of her family home with help from producer Eric Littmann and violinist Jake Faltby, who are also her touring bandmates.

Not Even Happiness had hits like Follow My Voice, Sleepwalker and Natural Blue, and was named one of the 50 best albums of 2017 by Pitchfork.

Byrne will play for one night only and fans can choose to be seated on either a bean bag at the front row of the stage, or a regular chair in the back while chilling out to her dreamy music and atmosphere.

“HAVE YOU HEARD? Folk Series: Julie Byrne Live! By MY BEER” will be on Aug 16 from 8.30pm onwards at Lido Connect. Tickets are 1,300 baht for early birds and 1,500 baht for regular booking, available via ticketmelon.com.
