Top Thais tinkle the ivories at Goethe-Institut
Two top Thai pianists Tarin Supprakorn and Wasin Prasertlap are staging a special duo piano concert to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sooner The Classical Music School, at Goethe Saal of Goethe-Institut, Sathon Road, on Thursday at 7.30pm.
The programme to delight classical piano lovers include Chopin’s Waltz In A-Flat Major; Scherzo No.4 In E Major and Fantaisie In F Minor; Ravel’s La Valse; Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words; Rachmaninoff’s Piano Sonata No.2 In B-Flat Minor; and Lutosławski’s Variations On A Theme By Paganini For Two Pianos.
Tarin received a doctor of musical arts and a master of music in piano performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music, New York, and has won top prizes from many international piano competitions.
They include the International Chopin Piano Competitions in Asia (Japan), the Asean International Concerto Competition (Indonesia), the International Stasys Vainiunas Piano and Chamber Ensemble Competition (Lithuania), and the First MTNA Stecher and Horowitz Two Piano Competition (USA).
A recipient of the Peabody Scholarship and the Yong Siew Toh scholarship, Wasin earned a graduate performance diploma and a master of music degree in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory, where he was awarded the Pauline Favin Memorial Award upon graduation.
He has performed as a soloist and collaborative musician in Southeast Asia, the US and Eastern Europe. He won the first prize at Thailand’s National Piano Concerto Competition and the Crescendo Summer Institute Chamber Music Competition in Sárospatak, Hungary, in 2012.
Both Tarin and Wasin have played with symphony orchestras in many countries. This anniversary concert is supported by Steinway Gallery Bangkok, Saranya Chindavanig, and Sooner The Classical Music School.
