Totchtawan offers to serve as coach Nishino’s assistant

- TOR CHITTINAND

>> Totchtawan Sripan, also known as “Coach Ban”, has officially expressed interest in assisting Thailand boss Akira Nishino of Japan.

A former Suphanburi and Muang Thong United coach, Totchtawan submitted his resume to the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) for the job yesterday.

Earlier, the FAT announced that Sirisak Yodyardthai and Anurak Srikerd would be serving as assistant coaches of the Thai national team, mainly analysing the War Elephants’ performance in their first two 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifying round matches next month.

Totchtawan, a former Thailand midfielder, said: “Actually, the FAT contacted me when I was working with Muang Thong and also during the time when I was busy coaching Suphanburi, which was when Alexandre Gama quit as the Thailand U23 team coach.

“At the time, I was not ready for the job because I didn’t have enough information about the U23 team and also had a new-born baby to look after.

“But now that the FAT has appointed Nishino as the head coach, I am keen to work with him — he has lots of experience and helped the Japanese team reach the World Cup last 16 round last year.

“I think it will be a good opportunity for me to learn from him and develop myself as a coach.

“I have sent my profile to the FAT already and am waiting for Nishino to call me for an interview.”

Totchtawan has coached many teams in domestic leagues including Saraburi, Police United, Muang Thong United, Police Tero and most recently Suphanburi.
