RCB Film Club is screening How About Love, a Swiss drama that could raise awareness about the important issue of refugees in Asia, at the RCB Forum, 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Nakhon Road, on Saturday at 4pm.

Directed by noted filmmaker Stefan Haupt, the film was shot in Chiang Mai and deals with the topical issue of Myanmar refugees on the Thai border.

The story is focused on Dr Fritz Reinhart, a surgeon from Zurich, who comes with his wife for a holiday to Chiang Mai and visits a Myanmar refugee camp where his doctor-friend is working. However, he is moved by the plight of the refugees and decides to stay on and help them while his wife returns home. The doctor then meets the quietly confident Myanmar refugee girl, Say Paw, who is a helper at the camp and a recorder of the refugees’ stories.

They are deeply attracted to each other and this places him in big trouble with his wife and three children. The doctor is now in great turmoil, and needs to make choices. The director said that he based his story on many real-life tales. His parents hosted several Cambodian refugees at their home in Switzerland over the years.

As the film didn’t have a public release in Thailand, this is an opportunity to watch it and see why it could create waves at various festivals in Europe, the US and Asia. The screening is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland, which will host an after reception. Some of the Thai artists who starred in the movie will also join the evening.

The film has English subtitles. There is no admission fee. For reservations, email clubmovie2019@gmail.com.
