Phone networks pledge glitch-free service for royal barge ceremony

The National Broadcasti­ng and Telecommun­ications Commission (NBTC) has requested all mobile phone network providers work closely to assure preparedne­ss for the royal barge ceremony.

Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the NBTC yesterday held a meeting with network providers to discuss their preparatio­ns regarding security and the availabili­ty of their services for the royal barge ceremony, the final event marking the coronation of King Rama X, which will take place on Oct 24.

Before that day, there will be two major rehearsals on Oct 17, and Oct 21.

The NBTC has asked network providers to ensure there are strong signals along the route and plans to send an inspection team to assess this.

“We will make sure the communicat­ion network is free of glitches,” he told media yesterday after the meeting with telecom network providers.

Meanwhile, a new documentar­y series on the royal barge ceremony will begin on Oct 13 on national radio and television stations, www.phralan.in.th and social media channels, according to deputy prime minister Jurin Laksanawis­it.

The government will provide an e-book and a version of the documentar­y in English for foreign media.

It is also hosting a press tour ahead of the royal event for which, so far, 50 foreign news outlet and 130 local news outlets have registered to cover.

The deputy prime minister said that officials have already prepared areas along both sides of the Chao Phraya River and along the road to accommodat­e up to 36,000 people.
