Pannika risks probe for ‘big donation’

- POST REPORTERS

Activist Srisuwan Janya yesterday asked the Election Commission (EC) to launch probe against Future Forward Party MP Pannika Wanich, over a large donation she apparently made to her party despite declaring a modest amount in assets to the National AntiCorruption Commission.

The Association for the Protection of the Thai Constitution secretary-general claimed that the source of the onemillion-baht donation was suspicious, given her asset declaration to the graftbusting agency.

Ms Pannika in August declared having about 91,000 baht in cash across four bank accounts to the NACC.

In total, she reported having 3.3-million baht worth of assets, which included jewellery, two cars and another 864,000 baht she had set aside for investment.

On Sunday, Mr Srisuwan called on the lawmaker to explain where she got the donation money from and end the speculation that it may have been illegally obtained or was “given by another donor seeking to give an amount that exceeded the legally allowed limit”.

Ms Pannika, who is the party spokeswoman, has not responded to the call.

Mr Srisuwan also registered a complaint asking the EC to look into donations made by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit and his wife, Rawiphan.

The FFP leader donated 10 million baht to his party and his wife contributed 7.2 million baht.

The activist has asked poll agency to rule whether the couple are considered a single entity under the law. If so, they would be in violation of the Political Party Act, which caps donations by an individual to a party at 10 million baht, he said.
