FOR WINTER TRAVELLERS
Princess Sirivannavari’s own fashion brand returned with a captivating show at the Park Hyatt
THE COLLECTION’S CONCEPT IMAGINES A WINTER DAY FROM ATOP THE FRENCH ALPS, WITH CHARMING MOUNTAIN VILLAGES
No longer do we have to wait until spring for a new collection by Sirivannavari Bangkok. The prestigious fashion house has embraced alluring deisgns for the cold season.
“Though Thailand has a tropical climate, Thai people travel abroad a lot during winter time. This is the reason why Sirivannavari has to debut an autumn/winter collection in the local market for those frequent travellers,” said Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, the maison’s founder and creative director.
Sirivannavari and S’Homme Autumn-Winter 2019/20 collections were recently presented in a fashion show staged at the Grand Ballroom, Park Hyatt Bangkok.
The collection’s concept imagines a winter day from atop the French Alps in Courchevel, the ultimate ski destination, with charming mountain villages. The inspiring snowy scenery led to the creation of ready-to-wear pieces under a palette rich in white, grey and black, punctuated with dashes of fuchsia and baby blue.
Signature silhouettes such as the Napoleonic Jacket and asymmetrical dress are reanimated by using luxurious and wintry materials such as tweed, Italian cashmere, cashmere and metallic fibre, wool, suede and feathers. “The collection represents the styling attitude and layering technique for daily life during wintertime yet still elegant and modern. In addition, it portrays my personal style during my stay in Europe,” the Princess said.
Sirivannavari’s winter wardrobe includes a tweed cape coat featuring a houndstooth motif, a trompe-l’oeil cape coat fastened with the brand’s emblem belt, and grey Italian cashmere turtleneck sweater matched with a tweed pegged skirt. Ultra-feminine pieces include an asymmetrical cocktail dress adorned with beads and floral appliqué, and a silk brocade and burnt velvet cocktail dress with asymmetrical ruffles.
The in-house workshop of couture embroidery, Sirivannavari Atelier and Academy shows meticulous craftsmanship in asymmetrical feather appliqué hems and floral appliqué, as well as embellished and sequinned tulle gloves.
Graphic prints, part of the brand’s DNA, remains a highlight, as the Princess combined peacock and zebra motifs for a signature pattern, incorporated throughout the collection, from scarves to ready-to-wear items.
From the 34 looks, seven presented mens from wear the new S’Homme collection — for instance, a metallic-cashmere sweater matched with pleather pants and a houndstooth wool scarf, a pleather jacket paired with houndstooth wool pants, and a Prince of Wales coat with camel shawl collar and cuffs worn over a turtleneck cashmere sweater and striped sweat pants.
The season’s accessories include men’s loafers with a gold-thread-embroidered emblem “S”, lace-up shoes and a clutch made of Glen Plaid wool and interwoven leather.
Italian leather goods for women include a calf leather and striped wool bag, whose extendable gusset forms two closed wings. Ankle boots and wedge pumps are made of luxury calf leather and suede in black and beige. In particular, fuchsia-lacquered soles become another signature of the brand.
Continuing last season’s theme, the Bijoux Collection features clover leaves, leopards and elephants, but with funky designs to further jazz up the winter looks.
