Somsak pressures DSI over Forex-3D

- KING-OUA LAOHONG

Justice Minister Somsak Thepsutin is pressing the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to accept a case against a foreign-exchange trading company after more victims lodged complaints.

Mr Somsak said yesterday he would like the agency to take on the case because of the extensive damage allegedly incurred by victims of Forex-3D, an online firm that promised handsome profits from foreign exchange trading.

About 100 victims filed a complaint with the DSI last Friday bringing the number of alleged victims to more than 2,000 after they discovered they could file complaints by scanning a QR code.

The alleged victims are claiming damages amounting to more than 400 million baht.

Lawyer Ronnarong Kaewphet said the online foreign exchange website had 30,000 members in Thailand and a revolving fund of about 40 billion baht.

The lawyer met the minister again yesterday to press for the DSI to take up the case as it did with the Mae Manee Ponzi scam.

One of the latest victims to come forward was Warapairin Thanawarisporn, an actress who accompanied the lawyer to the meeting.

Warapairin, a former MP candidate for the Chartthaipattana Party, said she invested about 2 million baht with the company and had not received any returns.

The actress said she put money into the scheme after visiting the company and finding it credible.

She also posted a message on her Instagram account complaining about the firm, saying she had not received any returns for six months and could not contact staff supposedly dealing with her investment.

DSI director-general Paisit Wongmuang yesterday refused to say whether the department would take up the case, only saying it was still talking to investors filing complaints.

Forex-3D has not responded to requests for comment but posted a warning message at the bottom of its website. “Forex-3D, currency exchange trading is high risk. Investors should understand the risks and learn more,” it said.

According to forexbrokerz.com, which reviews brokerages worldwide, Forex-3D is a Bangkok-based and family owned firm that is “highly suspicious”.
