HUNGRY FOR THE WOLF

WOLFCROISSANTERIE TURNS THE TASTY CROISSANT INTO SOMETHING SPECIAL

- STORY ERIC E SURBANO

Crois san ts area very straightforward and simple pastry — to eat that is. What you see is what you get. A little bit of butter paired with black coffee makes a pretty good breakfast or snack. But WolfCroissanterie, a little shop at the recently relaunched Lido Connect, takes the croissants we all know up a notch.

Wolf Croissant erie has been open for a mere three months, the same duration as Lido Connect, but even in that short time they’ve garnered some great word-ofmouth and rave reviews. The menu is simple: they’ve got seven regular croissants and one specialty of the month. One of their regular croissants is, of course, the straightup no-frills butter croissant, but they’ve also got some for those who have a sweet tooth. The Chocolate and Milkyway (both B85) are crowd favourites. I tried October’s special: the Milk tea croissant (B85). It was such a hit that they’ve extended its run for another month and thank God they did! This is something you shouldn’t miss. I also tried November’s specialty, the Orange cheese (B85), which unsurprisingly is fruity and zesty in taste. The wonabout derful thing these dessert croissants is that they’re not overly sweet. The Milk tea croissant hits the right spot of sweetness while still maintaining that authentic taste of milk tea. No, it doesn’t have boba but it does have the brown sugar jelly, which is a great substitute. The Orange cheese also comes with orange slices on top so you get actual fruit, not just a fruity taste. The oozing cream for both croissants means that it’s gonna get messy, but it’s all part of the experience.

If you’re looking for something savoury, you’re in luck. Their sole savoury selection is the Ham-cheese croissant (B95), and no, this is above and beyond those ham-cheese croissants you buy at convenience stores. Not only do they put Cheddar in the croissant along with the ham, it also oozes out mozzarella on top of the croissant, which makes this a wonderful cheesy treat. On top of that, they’ve also got bechamel in the croissant that gives it a bit of a unique taste.

You can’t go wrong with any of the croissants WolfCroissanterie offers, but that’s not all they have. You can pair up with a selection of their coffee that uses Thai coffee beans, but if you’re a milk tea addict like me, make sure to try the Okinawa fresh milk (B70), which uses the same jelly and brown sugar like in their Milk tea croissant. Go full milk tea and order the croissant and drink at the same time. No one’s gonna judge you.

If you’re around Siam, a visit to WolfCroissanterie is something you definitely won’t regret. If for some reason your lazy butt won’t get up for tasty croissants, you can also order them via Line Man. Whatever the case, you should definitely give them a try.
