Malkin notches 400th goal in Pens’ win

CALGARY: Two second-period goals and the 400th tally of Evgeni Malkin’s career lifted the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins past the Calgary Flames 4-1 on Tuesday.

Malkin, Kris Letang, Bryan Rust and John Marino each had a goal and an assist for Pittsburgh, who won their third straight and improved to 13-3-1 against the Western Conference. Johnny Gaudreau scored for Calgary, who lost their second in a row following a seven-game winning streak. Cam Talbot stopped 29 Penguins shots.

Malkin became the eighth active player and fourth player in Penguins history to reach 400 goals, joining Pittsburgh greats Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby and Jaromir Jagr.

Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry made 33 saves. He has won five of his past six starts.

Nick Bonino’s go-ahead goal late in the second period was the third in a string of seven unanswered tallies by Nashville, which stormed back to for the 8-3 win in Uniondale, New York.

The Predators trailed 3-1 before scoring the final four goals of the second period and all three goals in the third. Craig Smith scored twice for Nashville,

while Filip Forsberg started the flurry in the second period, and Rocco Grimaldi scored the final goal of the second, before Calle Jarnkrok, Roman Josi and Ryan Johansen scored in the third.

Brock Nelson, Derick Brassard and Casey Cizikas scored in unanswered fashion for New York in a span of just over five minutes early in the second period. Goalie Thomas Greiss took the loss after allowing five goals on 15 shots. Semyon Varlamov finished up and made six saves on nine shots in the third.

Anze Kopitar scored the game-winner 3:23 minutes into overtime as Los Angeles stunned hosts Boston 4-3.

Matt Roy tied the game late, and Blake Lizotte and Adrian Kempe also scored for the Kings, who won for the fourth time in their past five games (4-01). Jonathan Quick made 37 saves.

Danton Heinen had a goal and an assist, and Patrice Bergeron and Brandon Carlo also tallied as the Bruins lost for the sixth time in their past seven (1-4-2). Tuukka Rask stopped 23 shots.

Anthony Cirelli scored on a breakaway with 19 seconds remaining in overtime to lead Tampa Bay to a 4-3 win over visiting Ottawa.
