Thai striker Teerasil completes move to J-League’s Shimizu

-

>> Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda has joined Shimizu S-Pulse on a full transfer from Thai League 1 side Muang Thong United, the J-League club announced yesterday.

The 31-year-old Teerasil spent the 2018 season with Sanfrecce Hiroshima on loan from Muang Thong United.

He returned to the Kirins last year following an unsuccessful spell in Japan.

“I’m very happy to be joining Shimizu S-Pulse,” he said in a statement released by the club.

“I am moving here to Shizuoka, so close to Mt Fuji. In 2018, I thought how passionate S-Pulse’s supporters were when we played against them.

“I’ll give all I have for the sake of the team, so please cheer me on.”

At 31, he is still considered one of Thailand’s best strikers at the moment.

He has played 104 times for his country and scored 45 goals.

Teerasil will be the third Thai player in the J-League next season after Consadole Sapporo’s Chanathip Songkrasin and Yokohama F Marinos defender Theerathon Bunmathan.

Chanathip is one of the most popular players with Sapporo fans while Theerathon is also making his mark. The Thai trio played for the Kirins in Thailand.

Last year, Theerathon, on loan from Muang Thong, became the first Thai player to win the J-League championship when Yokohama F Marinos claimed the title.

Theerathon sealed a permanent move to Yokohama last month.

Meanwhile, Chanathip said he would try to help Consadole Sapporo earn an AFC Champions League spot in 2021.

The Hokkaido club finished 10th last season. The new J-League season begins on Feb 21. KYODO
