A place toturn for help
Recent data from the Mental Health Department has shown that there are 1 million young Thais dealing with clinical depression and around 2 million at risk of developing this and other mental illnesses.
This situation along with the increase of suicide rates among Thai youths has propelled Love Frankie, a Bangkok-based social and behaviour change creative agency, to come up with more than 30 creative activities allowing young people to discuss, explore and learn about mental health and build a community of support.
The activities will be conducted in Thai and English on four days from 9am to 9pm on Feb 29 to March 3 during “The Nook: A SpaceFor When You No-OK” at Yelo House, a former warehouse converted into multi-functioned space, located on Soi Kasemsan 1, Rama I.
Aimed to foster connections and support alongside a range of diverse mental health resources, the activities include talks with experts, one-on-one conversations with trained mental health volunteers, creative art therapy workshops, movement activities, self-care wellness practices like meditation and mindfulness, and open group discussions.
According to Love Frankie’s co-founder Rebecca Frankie, strong community connections and social support serves as a buffer against the impact of mental illness as it helps to develop more resilience and coping mechanisms. Itis also a protective factor against suicide.
“Sadly, many young people lack access to a support networkand this is why we want to contribute by building a community of care and support and a safe space for young people to feel seen and validated,” she said.
There is no admission fee.
