India planning to bid for Youth Olympic Games

-

>> India is interested in hosting the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Patama Leeswadtrakul said yesterday.

India and Thailand are among potential candidates for the 2026 Youth Olympics, according to the Thai official.

India’s IOC member Nita Ambani, who met Patama recently, claimed a successful YOG bid from her country will be its gateway to securing the hosting rights to a future Olympic Games.

Ambani is also a board member of Reliance Industries, India’s largest private-sector enterprise.

“I would love to bid for the Youth Olympics,” Ambani told India Today.

“That would be a game-changer. I think it’s all of standing together, we can do it for India.

“If we get the Youth Olympics to India, we can change the lives of many children.

“That will be our gateway to the Summer Olympics. It’s win-win for both, for the Olympics and for India.”

‘GUNDAM’ LAUNCHED

A microsatellite carrying model robots from the popular Japanese science fiction anime “Mobile Suit Gundam” was successfully launched into space to promote the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the games organisers said yesterday.

The “G-Satellite,” which contains two figures from the animation series, was launched to the International Space Station on Friday aboard a Space X / Dragon cargo flight from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

It will reach the space station on March 9 at 8pm Japan time.

The satellite will be released into its own orbit in the latter part of April and will orbit the earth during the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the first time a satellite will be used to celebrate the games.
