FOLLOW FOOTSTEPS OF FAMED AVIATOR
The Japan Foundation Bangkok will present the premiere of the contemporary theatre performance Lindbergh’s Flight at Slure Project, Charoen Krung Road, tomorrow at 7pm. There will be three more shows at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, plus a 3pm matinee on Saturday.
The performance is based on a play of the same title inspired by the first solo transatlantic flight by American aviator Charles Lindbergh in 1927. It was written by German playwright Bertolt Brecht in 1929 and premiered at a Berlin concert in the same year.
Lindbergh’s Flight is one of the Japanese artist collective Gecko Parade’s popular performances. It started from being performed in a small ordinary Japanese house, and then travelled to cultural properties, a museum, universities, and even a fermented soybean factory.
This is the first time the show will be staged outside Japan. The Bangkok version will bring audiences a new experience and perspective towards space and art forms.
They will follow Lindbergh’s journey through the entire building of Slure Project, witnessing the difficulties he experienced while trying to reach his destination.
The show will be performed, in both Thai and Japanese with translations, by Thai and Japanese artists from different fields including theatre, moving image, architecture and visual art who join hands for this production under the collective name of Gecko Parade and Co.
The performance will be a work-in-progress creation, staged in order to experiment and exchange ideas with audiences for the full performance in the future.
There is no admission fee to the show but due to the Covid-19 situation, the limited audience capacity is 10 people per performance.
