Romance is in the air with RBSO
The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will deliver a collection of Romantic music during the “RBSO Classical Concert No.2” at the Ballroom of Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, Ratchadamri Road, on Friday, at 8pm.
Presented by the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the evening concert will feature three pieces by German composers.
The first in the repertoire will be Overture In C Minor, Op 12 by Louis Spohr. Composed in 1807, one of his most prolific years, the piece has stood the test of time and is enjoyed by audiences around the world nearly 200 years later.
Second, Clarinet Concerto No.1 In F Minor, Op 73 by Carl Maria von Weber was written for Romantic virtuoso clarinettist Heinrich Bärmann in 1811. The audience can expect three movements in a pattern of fast, slow, fast. The first movement is regarded as quite innovative for its time, with elements later echoed in pieces by Mendelssohn.
Third is Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No.1 In C Minor, Op 11. Amazingly, this piece was completed in 1824 when he was just 15 years old. It was dedicated to the Royal Philharmonic Society in London and premiered in 1829 with Mendelssohn conducting.
The concert will see the orchestra’s own long-serving principal clarinettist Yos Vaneesorn perform as soloist. A graduate in music composition with first-class honours from Chulalongkorn University, Vaneesorn pursued his master’s and doctoral studies in the US at Louisiana State University and the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Currently, he is a clarinet instructor at Silpakorn University.
Stepping on the podium to conduct the orchestra will be principal trumpeter Vanich Potavanich, who has both performed and conducted around the world.
Tickets cost 300, 500 and 800 baht (half prices for students and seniors aged 60 years and older) and can be purchased from thaiticketmajor. com (call 02-262-3456).
