Seasoned designer Sirichai Daharanont celebrates 35 years of his fashion house
Marking Theatre’s 35th anniversary, Sirichai Daharanont recently launched The New Romance collection and opened the renovated flagship store, The Ideaopolis, at Siam Center.
The veteran designer has weathered many storms since establishing the fashion house in 1984.
Theatre keeps up with the times, evolving and reaching out to today’s fashionistas while maintaining quality couture.
“Carefully handcrafted work and meticulous embroidery are our brand’s identity,” Sirichai said. “Feminine and masculine characteristics blend in women’s and men’s clothing. Another dynamic that sets Theatre apart from other brands is the ready-to-wear that anyone can conveniently mix-and-match in their own style.”
The duality results in androgynous designs for both women and men to mix and match the same pieces, for self-expression.
Frills are also in the fashion house’s DNA. They reappear, lavishly layered in pastel-coloured pieces from The New Romance collection, unveiled in a fashion show at the flagship store.
“It reflects modern-day romance by fusing two completely polarising characters — just like the old adage ‘opposites attract,’” Sirichai said of the new collection.
Silhouettes of 19th-century works by French painter Albert Lynch merge with a distinct 1970s style, while unlikely colour pairings as well as fabric combinations harmonise in the latest ready-to-wear.
“The use of real and synthetic snakeskin, for instance, are in perfect harmony,” he said by way of example.
On Siam Center Floor 1, the renovated flagship store reveals more about Sirichai through the display of his collectibles, while other decorative items are made from recycled materials.
This floor is dedicated to fashion visionaries, and he’s one of Thailand’s seasoned designers, looking ahead to the next milestone.
