China has delivered another batch of medical supplies for use in the continuing fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, Deputy Defence Minister Chaichan Changmongkol said yesterday.

Yang Xin, Chargé D’affaires at the Chinese embassy, and Gen Chaichan attended a ceremony to take delivery of the medical supplies at the air force’s Wing 6 in Don Muang district of Bangkok.

Gen Chaichan, who represented Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, said the medical supplies were worth 30 million baht and included six non-invasive ventilators, 10 electrocardiograms, 30 infusion pumps, 100 infrared thermometers and 6,000 Covid-19 PCR test kits.

One hundred thousand single-use medical face masks, 15,000 surgical masks, 10,500 pairs of medial goggles, 7,000 sets of personal protective equipment and 120 boxes of gloves for complete nuclear, biological and chemical protection, were also given, he added.

“This is not the first time the Chinese government has supplied these devices and equipment to Thailand,”

Gen Chaichan said.

The medical supplies will be distributed to military hospitals and hospitals under the Public Health Ministry’s jurisdiction in the southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, he said.

China also praised the kingdom for its impressive performance in containing the Covid-19 outbreak and bringing it under control, Gen Chaichan added.

He said both nations plan to hold a teleconference soon to allow Thais side to learn more from their Chinese counterparts regarding Covid-19 containment.

“Thailand and China are no strangers, but brothers who are always there for each other through thick and thin,” Mr Yang said.

The Chinese people will never forget His Majesty the King’s message of condolences for the country sent to Chinese President Xi Jinping during the most difficult period when China was tackling the Covid-19 outbreak, he said.
