Hattaya Wongkrachang launches YouTube channel

- — Kanokporn Chanasongkram

Twins Supara and Sitala never imagined that their low-tech mum Hattaya “Ple” Wongkrachang would create a YouTube channel. However, the veteran DJ did exactly that by launching the Hattaya Wong channel on YouTube last Friday around one month after her husband, Sarunyoo “Tua” Wongkrachang, passed away at the age of 59.

Her late husband had told her to not hesitate and just do it, Hattaya recalls.

She is inviting netizens to join her wong — a Thai homonym meaning family and circle.

The first episode on her channel is in memory of Sarunyoo, a popular actor and director, whose last TV drama Patiharn Kalwela (The Secret Of Moment) was still in production and to be aired on PPTV, however, the process has been delayed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the first episode, Hattaya shares the family’s happy moments, from their wedding to the birth of their twins and their growth through photos and videos, many of them taken by Sarunyoo.

Sitala is a sociology student at Ewha University in South Korea while Supara has graduated with honours from Rangsit University where she majored in musical theatre.

In the debut episode, the twin sisters join their mother and express feelings about their late father by showing keepsakes and singing meaningful numbers.

They joke that their father was always on their side when in an argument with their mum. They also revealed how their lively mum, as strong as she is, can easily burst into tears.

Hattaya once described herself as being mun (a pun for being a super-fun person). Mun also means fat, which is her biggest fear as she is a health enthusiast.

The channel’s future episodes will feature topics about health, cuisine, fashion, beauty, music and entertainment as well as introduce her circle of friends.
