Nippon eyes new ‘healthy’ paints
Nippon Paint has launched a new line of antibacterial and antiviral paint for homes and businesses looking for new ways to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The Nippon Paint AirCare Wellness Series claims it inhibits viruses and bacteria and improves indoor air quality. The non-toxic, odourless paint was designed in collaboration with real estate developer Sansiri.
Watchara Siriritthichai, general manager of Nippon Paint Decorative Coatings Thailand, said the pandemic has pushed consumers to be more conscious about health and well-being, which has contributed to the rise of the healthy paint market.
The company’s “Air Anti” with silver-ion technology allegedly inhibits and obstructs the growth of viruses and bacteria, while its “Air Fresh” with anti-formaldehyde is purported to have active carbon technology that purifies indoor air and absorbs more than 80% of harmful formaldehyde within 48 hours.
“Nippon Paint AirCare is an innovation that serves the demands of our customers who prioritise health and safety as part of their new lifestyle,” Mr Watchara said. “Health-related products and services have become the choice for our customers and their families.”
The overall paint and coatings market in Thailand is worth 25-26 billion baht. The company expects the healthy paints market will grow by more than 5%.
Nippon Paint projects the pandemic will make its business contract 10-15% this year.
