Repeat offenders down, dept says

CRIME: Fewer people facing legal charges repeated the offences after having been put on probation in the past two years, according to the Department of Probation.

In 2018, 176,979 people were on probation and 10,239 were caught offending again.

Meanwhile, the number of people caught offending after completing probation dropped last year to 10,052 out of 176,487 people caught on various charges, it added.

Witthawan Sunthornka­jit, the department director-general, said the three most common repeat offences are drug abuse, traffic violations and theft.
