Raid nets drugs worth mil­lions

PAT­TANI: Three-hun­dred thou­sand speed pills worth 31 mil­lion baht were con­fis­cated from a mem­ber of a drug traf­fick­ing ring ac­tive in two prov­inces af­ter he was ar­rested dur­ing a raid in Muang dis­trict, po­lice said.

The sus­pect was iden­ti­fied as Danai Yi-i, 23. Po­lice raided his home as he was about to de­liver 30,000 pills to an un­der­cover po­lice­man in tam­bon Pooyu, they said.

Dur­ing ques­tion­ing, the sus­pect told po­lice more drugs were hid­den at a rented house in Muang. Po­lice searched the premises and dis­cov­ered 282,000 speed pills in card­board boxes.

Po­lice con­fis­cated the drugs, a mo­tor­cy­cle and two phones.

The sus­pect is charged with il­le­gal pos­ses­sion of nar­cotics with in­tent to sell. Po­lice said the drugs con­fis­cated from the sus­pect was val­ued at 31 mil­lion baht. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the seizure of the pills is part of an ex­tended in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the Sept 21 ar­rest of drug sus­pect Im­ron Ah­sae who was found with 1,275 speed pills in his pos­ses­sion.

Both were linked to a traf­fick­ing ring known as “Bae­lan” which op­er­ates in Pat­tani and Yala, po­lice said.
