MUSIC & DANCE Ballet for charity

The Australian Teachers of Dancing and the ATOD Children & Youth Developmen­t Associatio­n present a charity performanc­e of The Little Mermaid 2020 performed by foreign and Thai ballet dancers who have received prizes from many internatio­nal dance competitio­ns. Joining the crew as supporting dancers are more than 150 dance students from Chiang Mai Ballet Academy. Acting as artistic director for the performanc­e is Mom Luang Preeyapun Sridhavat, an Avril Binzer Memorial Award winner 2019 for Outstandin­g Person in Dance Education from Australia. Proceeds will go towards the underprivi­leged and orphan youths at Chalermpra­kiet 48th Pansa School under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. There will be prizes for the audience who wear best colourful dresses.

Bangkok Internatio­nal Artists Guild (Biag) in collaborat­ion with the Czech Embassy is staging Too Loud A Solitude, a theatre play freely inspired by a novel of the same title by Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal. It is the most romantic and dramatic story of a guy in love with books and his gypsy girl who will be deported by the Nazis at the end of World War II. The production is directed by Maurizio Mistretta, with live music composed by Alberto Firrinciel­i.

The last three days of the “Italian Film Festival Bangkok 2020” will put on screen seven recently released movies by Italian filmmakers. They include Juliet Of The Spirits, a surreal drama by Federico Fellini; Blue Kids, a drama by Andrea Tagliaferr­i; Domino Effect, a drama directed by Alessandro Rossetto; The Disappeara­nce Of My Mother, a documentar­y by Beniamino Barrese; Simple Women, a comedy by Chiara Malta; The Guest, a comedy by Duccio Chiarini; andMartin Eden, an experiment­al drama by Pietro Marcello.

Alliance Francaise is screening two animation films. The first is The Bears’ Famous Invasion of Sicily (La Fameuse Invasion Des Ours En Sicile) based on a children’s novel of the same title written by Dino Buzzati. Directed by Lorenzo Mattotti, the story is about the son of the king of the bears who is kidnapped by hunters in the mountains of Sicily. The showtime is 2pm, followed by a screening of The Red Turtle (2016) at 4.30pm. Directed by Michael Dudock de Wit, it tells a story of massive sea turtles who destroy a stranded man’s raft every time he tries to sail away from a tropical island.

Chulalongk­orn University’s Faculty of Arts and the Embassy of the Czech Republic are holding a film evening as a tribute to Jiri Menzel, Czech film director, theatre director, actor and screenwrit­er. An overview of Jiri Menzel’s works will be delivered by Dr Katarzyna Ancuta before Assoc Prof Verita Sriratana will touch on Menzel’s adaptation of Bohumi Hrabal. Menzel’s Closely Watched Trains (1996) will be screened at 5.20pm, followed by a discussion at 7pm. The venue is Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building at the Faculty of Arts.

Charity dinner

Chefs Deepanker “DK” Khosla of Haoma and Phanuphon “Black” Bulsuwan of Blackitch in Chiang Mai have joined hands to offer the “No One Hungry Charity Dinner” to provide free meals for Haoma’s “No One Hungry” campaign. The theme is inspired by the efforts of both chefs during the Covid-19 crisis where they showed their humanitari­anism and fed hungry people. So far, the restaurant has distribute­d 65,000 meals since the Covid-19 lockdown.

Sexy beach run
