Little Market moves into Yen Akat

- NIANNE-LYNN HENDRICKS

Smash them burgers at Litte Market, get some chocolate love at Pridi Cacaofevier and go local at the 21st World Gourmet Festival.

With a new “dining room” on Yen Akat, Little Market has expanded their menu to include good old American diner classics. And that includes smash burgers, which get their name from smashing the patties on the griddle, milkshakes and floats.

All burgers are Ranger’s Valley 270-day grain fed Australian black Angus beef, the choices of which are: Steakburger (B199) with two beef patties, American cheese, garlic pickles, onions, mustard and mayo. If you’ve got a mouth big enough, get the Triple Double (B240), which comes with three beef patties. I had the Chilli burger (B249), which has the addition of chilli con carne. It hit the right spot and then some. If you’re a bacon fiend, add bacon for B40.

No burger is complete without fries and you can choose from Steak fries (B109), Chili cheese fries (249), which is a meal in itself with French fries topped with beef chilli, chopped scallions and house-made cheese. You can add sour cream or bacon (B40). If those don’t satiate you, get the Bacon cheese fries (B199). Little Market also does Tater tots (B129) and Loaded tots (249), which are like a jacket potato but with tater tots. One of my favourite fried snacks is the Jalapeño poppers (B159) and Little Market stuffs fresh jalapeños with cream cheese, coats them in panko and deepfries them. Served with house-made ranch dressing, these peppers do not disappoint.

To wash this down, order a milkshake (vanilla, chocolate and strawberry B199) or a float (classic root beer or an orange float B179). If you’re like me and have a separate stomach for dessert, try the Hand pies (B99) or the fried Cheesecake bites (B149). For those who don’t eat beef, there are pork burgers and chicken sandwiches.

The interiors are extremely ’Gram-worthy, with bold ice cream colours and seats out of a tuk tuk, as well as merch for sale. For those who want to enjoy the cool weather, there is a shaded outdoor area.

Little Market is also looking at expanding in the near future and will have stalls all over the city, making the smash burgers accessible to all. Stay tuned!
