Eagles rally past Giants, move atop woeful NFC East
Carson Wentz threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Boston Scott with 40 seconds remaining, lifting the Eagles to a 22-21 victory over the New York Giants on Thursday.
Wentz threw for a season-high 359 passing yards and two touchdowns, both late in the fourth quarter, while getting intercepted once. He also had a rushing TD.
Wentz feathered the ball just over the head of New York safety Jabrill Peppers into the waiting hands of the 5-foot-6 Scott for the winning score.
The Giants ( 1 - 6 ) attempted to answer on the ensuing drive, but Brandon Graham stripped quarterback Daniel Jones of the ball and Vinny Curry recovered to seal the win for the Eagles (2-4-1).
Philadelphia won their eighth consecutive encounter against New York and moved percentage points atop the moribund NFC East, a division that sports a combined 6-19-1 record.
Jones threw for two touchdowns and nearly rushed for another for New York.
Jones was also at the centre of a bizarre moment in the third quarter when he broke clear from the line of scrimmage and sprinted upfield as the Eagles defence opened in front of him.
RAIDERS V BUCS GAME SHIFTED
A Covid-19 outbreak among the Las Vegas Raiders prompted the NFL to shift tomorrow’s game against Tampa Bay to an afternoon match-up instead of a night feature.
Vegas offensive right tackle Trent Brown tested positive for Covid-19 and the entire Raiders starting offensive line was sent home to selfisolate after being linked to Brown by contact tracing, with safety Jonathan Abram also quarantining.
The Raiders-Buccaneers contest was moved to an afternoon game while the unbeaten Seattle Seahawks visit to Arizona was shifted to a Sunday night kick-off on national television.
“These decisions were made out of an abundance of caution to ensure that a game would be available for fans on Sunday Night Football,” the NFL said in a statement. “Scheduling decisions are made to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel and in consultation with medical experts.”
