Ceramics star in Siam Society showcase

-

Siam Society is holding a lecture on “Contemporary Ceramics In Thailand” by Assist Prof Pim Sudhikam at the Lecture Room, 4th floor, on Jan 14 at 7pm.

The lecture is a short summary from her research titled “Survey Of Contemporary Ceramic In Thailand From 1985 To 2016”. The survey started in 1985, which was the first year of the National Ceramic Exhibition. The research included documentary studies of exhibition catalogues, competition catalogues, and reviews of exhibitions, including interviews and images of artwork from the artists.

The findings show a broad view of contemporary ceramic practice in Thailand and it can be used as a reference for contemporary ceramic study in the future. The lecture will also cover other visual artists who have recently used clay as their medium and have helped expand the contemporary ceramic scene in Thailand.

Pim graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts from HDK Gothenburg University, Sweden. Since 1998, she has been working with clay as her main medium, investigating pottery as material, process and content. Her works include collections of objects, sculptures and large-scale site-specific installations.

She has received an Award of Excellence in Arts and Crafts from the Ministry of Culture, a National Invention Award from the National Research Council of Thailand and an Honourable Mention from the 39th Ceramic Competition Gualdo Tadino, Italy. Currently, she is a board member of the Thai Ceramic Society and elected Council Member of the International Academy of Ceramics (lAC).

The fee is 200 baht (free for members and students). Seats are limited. Email pinchip@thesiam society.org or call 02-661-6470-3 ext 203.
