McLaren star Norris tests positive for coronavirus
LONDON: McLaren driver Lando Norris has tested positive for Covid-19 and is now self-isolating, his Formula
One team said on Tuesday.
McLaren said in a statement that Norris had returned a positive result on Monday in Dubai, where he is on a holiday before the team’s training camp.
Norris, 21, said that he took a Covid19 test after losing his sense of taste and smell. “I feel alright and have no other symptoms,” he wrote on Twitter.
Norris is the fourth F1 driver to test positive for the novel coronavirus after seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll returned positive tests last season.
Norris finished ninth in the drivers standings last season.
Meanwhile, the Williams Formula
One team announced on Tuesday a switch to gearboxes and hydraulic components provided by engine supplier Mercedes f rom 2022 in a significant step for the struggling former champions who changed hands last year.
The British team, now owned by US-based Dorilton Capital after the founding family sold up and departed, have scored just one point in the last two seasons despite using the sport’s dominant engine.
A proudly independent constructor since 1978, Williams, who last won a grand prix in 2012, currently design and build their own gearboxes.
The regulations will be undergoing a major overhaul in 2022 and the new deal will allow Williams to focus resources on other areas.
