Duvall has a big day in Braves rout

NEW YORK: Miami left fielder Adam Duvall had two home runs and matched a club record with seven RBIs to help lead the visiting Miami Marlins to a 14-8 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.

Duvall was 4-for-5, hit his third and fourth home runs, and added a double to lift his batting average from .160 to .267.

Miami came up with season highs with the 14 runs and hits (17), and seven of their starting position players got at least one hit. Third baseman Brian Anderson was 3-for-5, including his first homer and three RBIs, and Miguel Rojas was 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The winning pitcher was John Curtiss (1-0), who pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Pablo Lopez. Curtiss allowed one hit and struck out two. Lopez pitched four innings and gave up six runs on nine hits and one walk. He struck out six.

Paul Goldschmid­t, Nolan Arenado, Matt Carpenter and Justin Williams each drove in three runs as St Louis routed visiting Washington 14-3.

Goldschmid­t hit a homer, the 250th of his career, and a two-run single, as the Cardinals won in convincing fashion. Arenado hit a two-run homer and an RBI single. Carpenter hit a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly. Williams hit an RBI single and a two-run single.

Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg (0-1) laboured for four-plus innings and allowed eight runs on eight hits, including three homers.

Trevor Bauer tossed seven shutout innings, Corey Seager homered, doubled and scored three runs, and host Los Angeles beat Colorado 7-0.

Max Muncy and Chris Taylor homered and had two hits apiece.
