CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY

-

Re: “Study into whether animal drug can treat Covid”, (BP, July 1).

The conclusion of a recently published, peer reviewed paper, (Ivermectin for Prevention and Treatment of Covid-19 Infection, a Systematic Review, Meta-analysis, and Trial Sequential Analysis to Inform Clinical Guidelines), in the American Journal of Therapeutics states: “Moderate-certainty evidence finds that large reductions in Covid-19 deaths are possible using Ivermectin.

Using Ivermectin early in the clinical course may reduce numbers progressing to severe disease.

The apparent safety and low cost suggest that Ivermectin is likely to have a significant impact on the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic globally.”

Ivermectin is recognised as a safe drug that has been in use for decades with few side effects.

Therefore it seems the announcement that the Department of Medical Services would study the use of Ivermectin for use in Covid-19 treatment in conjunction with Favipiravir here is rather shocking.

Favipiravir is only used according to Department of medical Services guidelines when Covid associated viral pneumonia is present.

But Ivermectin is most efficacious when used at the first signs of Covid infection or a confirmed positive PCR test.

What possible harm could it do to give people Ivermectin as part of a well-designed protocol for Covid treatment?

Such protocols are now readily available from reputable organisations all over the world and can be administered at low cost immediately.

Ivermectin costs less than 1 baht per dose wholesale.

Every day wasted with copycat, cover-our-butts studies is one more crime against humanity at this juncture.

The people of Thailand deserve better from their government.
