The Digital Government Development Agency (DGA) is working with 56 local administrative organisations (LAOs) to support them with digital solutions through its cloud platform to enhance their management and operations.

The 56 LAOs are the first batch of more than 7,000 tambon and provincial administrative organisations nationwide that need digital solutions to enhance their services under the government’s local digitalisation policy, according to the DGA.

The 56 LAOs are in 27 provinces across the country that recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation with the DGA. The event was witnessed by Prime Minister’s Office Minister Anucha Nakasai.

DGA president Supot Tiarawut said the 56 LAOs are in the pilot group that will be able to handle their service systems through DGA’s cloud platform, covering one point management, electronic correspondence, online construction permits, a system that issues certificates to eateries and online food collection places as well as online garbage fee payment system.

The DGA earlier worked with Mae Hia municipality in Chiang Mai’s Muang district to enhance its management system and that model can be used to support other LAOs.

In another development, the DGA is preparing to host the International Conference on Digital Government Technology and Innovation, aiming to promote research and development for the government and public sector.

The event, which will be hosted online from Aug 30-31, is aimed at demonstrating how digital technology can facilitate state services in an easier, quicker and more effective manner, Mr Supot said.

The event can be accessed through https://www.facebook.com/DGAThailand.

The event will be also a platform for both Thai and foreign researchers and academics to exchange experiences and knowledge in digital technology and innovation in the government sector.

“The Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdowns have reinforced the importance of technology in government services. Government agencies need to be prepared to deal with current and future challenges by using digital technology as a medium for agencies to work together,” Mr Supot said.

The development of innovative technology is also a necessity because it not only provides every citizen quick and convenient access to government services but also helps with big data collection and analysis.

The system also links the government and private sector to ensure the national data collected is complete, accurate and updated in real-time.

“This international conference is a platform for presenting academic and research reports to build cooperation between Thailand and other countries.”

The research focus of the event covers five areas: Technology for Public Sector, Agriculture and Sustainability, Services and Welfare, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Smart Education.
