WINNING PAINTINGS ON DISPLAY AT ‘PORTRAIT PRIZE’
Two winning paintings from the “RCB Portrait Prize 2021” competition are being exhibited alongside other entries during “Portrait Prize”, which is running at RCB Galleria, 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, until Dec 7.
The competition received a total of 178 entries from across the country. They were painted by professional and amateur artists of all nationalities and ages as well as students. Each of them had at least one live sitting and was required to submit their work along with a 300-word story of their sitter. An esteemed jury of seven members of the business community chose Bua Pan by Manop Momin as RCB Portrait Prize 2021’s winner. It shows the strong technical ability of the artist, the courage of the sitter, and the deep emotion expressed in the painting. Manop was awarded 500,000 baht.
The winner of the Packing Room Prize is Learning In Covid Situation by Tanawat Muratatunyaluk. It was picked by RCB’s Exhibition team who have seen a wide array of art exhibited at the River Bangkok City throughout the year. Tanawat received 200,000 baht.
Viewers are encouraged to read the stories of the artists’ sitters. They provide an insight into society during what has been an extremely challenging 12 months. The stories also show the strength of character of the nation, providing inspiration to us all.
Viewers are also invited to cast a vote for The People’s Choice Prize (worth 100,000 baht) and the winner will be announced on Dec 7.
The exhibition is open for public viewing daily from 11am to 8pm. There is no admission fee.
