Penguins top Blues for 9th victory in a row

PITTSBURGH: Bryan Rust had two goals and an assist as the Penguins erased two two-goal deficits to win their ninth straight game, 5-3 over the St Louis Blues in the NHL on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby and Evan Rodrigues each added a goal and an assist, Brock McGinn scored, and Kris Letang and Jake Guentzel each had two assists.

Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith allowed three goals on 16 shots before being replaced during the second period by Tristan Jarry.

In his first appearance since contractin­g Covid-19, Jarry stopped all 13 shots he faced.

Brayden Schenn had a goal and an assist, and Jordan Kyrou and Colton Parayko scored for the Blues, who are 7-2-1 in their past 10 games.

St Louis goaltender Jordan Binnington made 36 saves.

Ilya Mikheyev scored the go-ahead goal on a power play in the third period and the Toronto Maple Leafs went on to defeat the visiting Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Wednesday night.

John Tavares, TJ Brodie and Alexander Kerfoot also scored for Toronto. William Nylander added two assists for the Maple Leafs, who have won four in a row.

Brendan Perlini and Leon Draisaitl scored for the Oilers, who lost their fifth straight game.

Jack Campbell stopped 28 shots for Toronto.

Mike Smith made 29 saves for Edmonton.

The Oilers were without Connor McDavid, Derek Ryan and Tyson Barrie who were placed in Covid-19 protocols. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (undisclose­d) also was out. Zack Kassian returned from protocols.

Toronto were without Ondrej Kase (undisclose­d) and Timothy Liljegren (Covid-19 protocols).
