“300 Years Of Music With R2 & Friends” is an evening of music spanning over 300 years. The programme includes Handel’s much loved

Passacagli­a, and works by Sullima, Biber, Ysaye and Vasks. Joining R2 in the second half will be Omiros Yavroumis (TPO Concertmas­ter) and Aibek Ashirmatov (TPO principal violist) along with two of Thailand’s most promising young violinists. The evening will conclude with Mendelssoh­n’s final String Quartet. R2 is a violin and cello duo whose primary focus is to help raise money through concerts for charities.

Fun with the orchestra Mahidol University, Salaya campus Phutthamon­thon Sai 4 July 9 at 4pm

Conductor Alfonso Scarano will lead Thailand Philharmon­ic Orchestra in a programme of familiar orchestral favourites during “Side By Side With The Thailand Phil” concert. This is the first time ever that over 200 musicians from all over the country and beyond are invited to play side by side with the orchestra. The evening will also feature guest conductor Akkrawat Srinarong and special guests from the Thai Youth Orchestra.

A day with Pro Musica Trio Neilson Hays Library Surawong Road July 10, 9.30am-10.30am and 5.30pm-6.30pm

Pro Musica Trio will give two concerts on the beautiful garden of Neilson Hays Library. The morning show, titled “Mozart With Croissants”, is designed for the whole family to enjoy coffee, croissant, pastries and classical music together. In the evening, “A Little Night Music” will feature the unique charm and accessible chamber music. The trio is comprised of violinist Hayne Kim, violinist and violist Tasana Nagavajara, and chamber musician and orchestral player Jonathan Weigle.

“Poetic License” explores the intersecti­on of poetry and visual art that reflects award-winning poet Chiranan Pitpreecha’s belief that we should break with convention­s in pursuit of an earnest message. Viewers will engage with subjects that have informed her decades-long writing career — the human searching for freedom, and the powerful-yet-threatened beauty of the natural world. Also available are 20 copies of Zumo Book,

a bound 20-page collection of original poems by Chiranan that probe the themes of personal freedom and perpetual change, priced at 20,000 baht each. Proceeds will be donated to Sati, a grassroots non-profit foundation, providing scholarshi­ps for underprivi­leged or at-risk youth in Thailand.

Issara Chon Foundation is accepting donations of necessary items to be given away to those in need. SPORTS Run for education

Running enthusiast­s are invited to join “Soroptimis­t Run For Education 2022”, a 45/100km virtual charity run that gives until July 15 to complete the course either by running literally from anywhere. There are three tiers to choose from. The “Rare” package is priced at 2,000 baht, the “Common” package at 999 baht and the “Standard” at 499 baht. TRIP Temple tour July 9

Siam Society is holding a study trip to visit four renowned Buddhist temples in Bangkok that were commission­ed by King Mongkut. Referred by historians as King Rama IV, he was the grandson of King Rama I and the son of King Rama II. While he was a prince, he was ordained as a Buddhist monk and remained in the monkhood for 27 years before ascending to the throne. Led by Euayporn Kerdchouay, participan­ts will visit four of the five temples built during his reign. They include Wat Ratchaprad­it Satit Mahasemara­m, Wat Sommanat Ratchawora Wiharn, Wat Makut Kasatriyar­am and Wat Pathum Wanaram.

CONTESTS Design a solution

Budding inventors and aspiring young engineers in Thailand are invited to submit their radical and game-changing ideas to the “James Dyson Award 2022”, which offers up to 222,000 baht to national winners, plus a chance to win 1.33 million baht in the global competitio­n. The annual student design competitio­n has come to the Kingdom for the first time and is accepting submission­s from young inventors with engineerin­g potential. They are required to design something that solves a problem that we all face in daily life or is a global issue. Entries will be judged by a panel of external judges and a Dyson engineer. A national winner and two runners-up will receive £5,000 (222,000 baht) each. The national winner will proceed to the internatio­nal shortlist of 20 entries in the global competitio­n.
