Man United seek 10th win in a row

-

Manchester United will be looking to extend their winning run when they meet Crystal Palace in the Premier League today.

With their 2-1 victory over champions Manchester City at the weekend, the Red Devils have won nine consecutive games in all competitions.

United are fourth on 38 points, behind Newcastle on goal difference. Arsenal have 47 points, ahead of Manchester City on 39 points.

A win for United today will see them move to second. Crystal Palace sit 12th on 22 points.

Dutch striker Wout Weghorst could make his Manchester United debut at Crystal Palace.

United completed the loan signing of Weghorst for the rest of the season last week to bolster Erik ten Hag’s forward options.

The 30-year-old had been on loan at Besiktas from Burnley, but the Turkish giants announced they had received €2.8 million to cut that deal short.

United have been short of strikers since Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract at Old Trafford was terminated in November.

Weghorst joined Burnley from Wolfsburg for £12 million in January 2022 but scored just two Premier League goals as the Clarets were relegated last season.

However, he struck nine times in 18 games for Besiktas and scored twice for the Netherlands in a thrilling World Cup quarter-final against eventual champions Argentina last month.

Weghorst was not registered in time to be able to feature against Manchester City on Saturday.

But he will add extra depth with the Red Devils still involved in four competitions.

With Weghorst’s arrival, United still have only two out-and-out strikers.

French forward Anthony Martial is injury-prone and out of sorts and could be axed by Ten Hag.

The Dutch coach may rest some players as they will face leaders Arsenal on Sunday.

FOREST SIGN DANILO

Premier League side Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Danilo for a reported fee of around £16 million.

The 21-year-old, who has signed a six-and-a-half-year deal, is the second arrival in the January transfer window, following former Palmeiras teammate Gustavo Scarpa to the City Ground.

“I’m really happy to be fulfilling my dream of playing in the Premier League and playing for Nottingham Forest,” said Danilo.

“I learnt a bit about the history of the club and saw they had won two European Cups. I spoke to Gustavo Scarpa as well, and he told me that Nottingham is a great city and Forest have a quality squad with really good staff.”
