The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is planning to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of its bilateral relationship with Thailand with a series of events throughout the year, according to South Korea’s ambassador to Thailand, Moon Seoung-hyun yesterday.

Speaking after the launch of “Experience Korean New Year’s Day” at the Korean Cultural Centre in Thailand, the decision to hold events throughout the year was taken to reflect the close relationship between the two countries.

To mark the 65th anniversary of Thai-Korean relations, there will be two strategic dialogues between the embassy and Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Ministry this year, he said.

“There will also be cultural activities organised throughout this year, starting with a Seollal — Korean Lunar New Year — celebration today,” he said yesterday, adding the event enables the Thai public to experience how Koreans mark Lunar New Year’s Day.

Moreover, there will be a reception for National Foundation Day with music and cultural activities, the highlight of which will be a performance by Grammy awardwinning soprano Sumi Jo.

“If you go to the National Museum, you will see a digital arts exhibition by Korean artists, which is also part of our year-long celebration,” the Korean ambassador to Thailand said.

On top of the cultural activities, the embassy will officially open the Korean-Thai Friendship Trail at Haew Narok Waterfall in Khao Yai National Park, sometime between June and August this year.

According to the Korean Cultural Centre, there will be a public competition to design the official logo for the celebrations. The details will be announced after consultations with Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Thailand and South Korea formally established diplomatic relations on Oct 1, 1958. Since then, the relationship between the two countries has grown across various sectors.
