Can Sinsamut top Eersel in rematch?
Sinsamut Klinmee gets his chance at redemption tomorrow.
“Aquaman” will have a rematch with two-sport ONE world champion Regian Eersel in the main event of ONE Lumpinee 9 with Eersel’s ONE lightweight Muay Thai world title on the line.
The pair locked horns for the vacant title in October, with Eersel taking a razor-thin split-decision victory after an epic back-and-forth battle.
With the win, Eersel added the Muay Thai belt to the ONE lightweight kickboxing world title that he has held since 2019.
Thai star Sinsamut felt aggrieved as the decision was read out in the circle, but at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, the 27-year-old will look to square the ledger with “The Immortal.”
Eersel is undefeated in his eight appearances since signing with ONE back in 2018 and will likely go into the rematch as a warm favourite.
However, Sinsamut could well be the man to inflict the first defeat of the Surinamese champion’s run with the Singapore-based promotion.
Sinsamut is never without a chance, owing largely to his show-stopping punching power. That power was on full display in the Venum Muay Thai representative’s first two appearances in the circle — a pair of crushing knockouts over Dutch legend Nieky Holzken and British striking star Liam Nolan.
Both victories netted him US$50,000 performance bonuses, courtesy of ONE chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
Perhaps the difference in the rematch could be Muay Thai experience.
While Eersel is no stranger to the sport, all of Sinsamut’s 100 professional fights have taken place in “the art of eight limbs.”
The Thai superstar is a lifelong practitioner of the sport, hailing from a Muay Thai family.
Eersel holds an impressive record of 59-4, however, his fights have been split between Muay Thai and kickboxing.
If Sinsamut can clear the longsnaking jab of Eersel, perhaps his Muay Thai techniques — such as clinch and elbows — could be the difference maker when the pair renew hostilities.
Eersel v Sinsamut II headlines a stacked card that includes the return of Thai legend Sam-A Gaiyanghadao and superstars such as Seksan Or Kwanmuang, Panpayak Jitmuangnon, Muangthai PK Saenchai, and Kulabdam Sor Jor Piek Uthai.
Organisers said it is the biggest card at Lumpinee for years.
