A FEAST FOR THE EYES
The spectacular 355-square-metre Amorn Piman Suite of the new Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse proved a very chic backdrop for this month’s cover shoot with Betagen heiress Anisha “Pam” Attaskulchai. Exquisitely decorated in a plush contemporary style and fitted out with all the modern conveniences one would expect, the spacious presidential suite has also been subtly infused with distinctively Thai touches to provide it a very evident sense of place.
Similarly, Pam exudes a confident and worldly air, while her graciousness, patience and politeness during the eight-hour-long day still make her quintessentially Thai. She was a natural in front of the camera and a pleasure to work with – as the pictures attest to. For the interview, Pam also surprised us with her frankness and honesty, sharing her innermost thoughts on family, love, life and aspirations.
Another highlight in this issue is a journey on what has been hailed the most luxurious train in the world, Rovos Rail. Called “The Pride of Africa” and operating from Pretoria in South Africa, the Edwardian-style train recalls a romantic and glamorous era of travel. Still in South Africa, we visit the French Huguenot farm Fredericksburg at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain in the Franschhoek Valley – home to the stately Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons – for a taste of the best vintages produced here. Fashionistas are well catered for with a feature about the preservation of ancient savoir-faire in the creation of haute couture, as well as seven of the biggest Pre-fall 2018 trends – and how to achieve these looks with confidence. We also get behind the wheel of the new Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo, and round up 10 of the most talked-about watches from this year’s Baselworld.
Closer to home, it’s almost time for the 19th World Gourmet Festival, which is being held from September 3-9 at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel. As is customary, a stellar lineup of acclaimed international chefs will be heading to Bangkok, and we have the low-down on this gastronomic feast so you can book your seats in advance.
From front to back, there’s something for everyone this month – whatever tickles your fancy.
It’s time to kick back and enjoy!
