Phuket officials investigate Russian carsharing occupying public parking
OFFICIALS FROM THE Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO) office arrived in Patong on Nov 8 to investigate an ‘Anytime’ car occupying a parking space reserved for green-plate taxis and tourist rental vehicles.
The inspection was reported earlier that day by the Phuket Info Center, which noted that the PLTO, police and other relevant agencies were conducting an inspection of “rental vehicles occupying public parking spaces.”
Photos included with the post showed officials inspecting and photographing an Anytime car sharing vehicle parked on the Patong beach road.
The PLTO and Patong Municipality have yet to comment on the inspection, reported The Phuket News’ Russian-language sister newspaper Novosti Phuketa at the time.
There have previously been no complaints about car sharing in Phuket, but complaints about rental vehicles on sidewalks, roadsides and public parking spaces are heard regularly on the island, the Novosti Phuketa report said.
Questions are also often raised regarding tuk-tuk drivers, who with their cars occupy scarce parking spaces in Patong. Over many previous years, officials have carried out inspections to streamline parking along Patong beach road in time for the high season. This year the topic has not yet been raised.
The ‘Anytime Carsharing Thai’ lists the Phuket company Vend Land Asia Co in Moo 7 Srisoonthorn as the operator.
The company was formed in October 2019. The Department of Business Development (DBD) lists the company as engaging in real estate transactions and vehicle rental, with the director of the company listed as Russian national Igor Maleikin.
