British teacher arrested for molesting female student
THAI IMMIGRATION officials have arrested a 38-year-old British man in Chiang Mai who was wanted for indecent acts with students in Phuket, where he worked at an international school.
The arrest was announced at the Immigration Bureau weekly press conference held in Bangkok on Feb 1.
The man, named by Immigration officials only as “Mr Tyler”, was wanted on Phuket Provincial Court arrest warrant No. 21/2024 issued on Jan 12.
The man was brought to Chalong Police Station and charged with taking away a minor who is over 15 years of age but not more than 18 years of age from father, mother, guardian or caretaker without justification for indecency.
Tyler worked as a teacher at an international school in Phuket in 2014-2015, Immigration officials explained.
While being a teacher, Tyler twice committed indecent acts on a 16-year-old foreign female student from the school at a house in Chalong. The first time was on Dec 9, 2014, the second time was at night on April 2, 2015.
When the girl’s parents and the school learned about the incident, the school investigated and terminated Tyler’s teaching contract.
At the press conference it was explained that as for the report of the legal action, the girl’s parents requested that their daughter finish her studies in Thailand first. After
their daughter graduated, the parents then reported the matter to the Chalong Police so that he could be prosecuted.
Investigators collected various evidence and requested the Phuket Provincial Court to issue an arrest warrant for Tyler.
Tyler was found living with his wife, a Thai woman, at a house in Nong Hoi Subdistrict, in Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai Province, where he had been living since 2016.
