-

THE TOURISM AUTHORIY of Thailand (TAT) and Amazing Thailand have confirmed that the 6th annual TAT Samui Open Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held in Koh Samui between Mar 29-31.

The hugely popular international tournament, to be held at SEEN Beach Club on Chaweng Beach, promises to attract a large crowd of participants and spectators alike while providing a major boost for sports tourism in southern Thailand.

The now fully registered tournament will see 88 teams with 130 athletes and 28 countries, with 80% of the athletes from overseas and 20% Thai and foreign nationals.

Tournament winners stand to win prize money of B100,000, in addition to trophies, medals, sponsor vouchers, volleyball gear and apparel.

The tournament will consist of three days play with teams competing in four divisions: men’s 2x2; women’s 2x2; mixed team 2x2; and quads 4x4.

Entry for spectators is free across all three days of competition. In addition to the game play itself, entertainment comes in the form of live musical entertainment from DJs, concession stands, after-parties and volleyball merchandise.

Each day’s play runs from 9am until 6pm, with the semi-finals and finals on Mar 31 starting from 1pm. The tournament is scheduled to finish on the Sunday (Mar 31) at 6pm whereby a closing celebration party will be held at SEEN Beach Club.

The tournament is partnering with ‘HUB Beach Volleyball’ Camp from Australia to offer a 3-day training camp prior to the event which former Olympic volleyball silver medalist David McKienzie will oversee as the head coach.

The international event, the biggest event of its type to date, is presented by TAT, organised by Biggs Island Productions (BIP), hosted by SEEN Beach Club/Avani Hotel Chaweng and supported by Koh Samui Municipality (Tessaban).

“We are proud to promote beach volleyball in South East Asia and on Koh Samui and to hold this annual event on our beautiful island,” commented TAT Director Kate Kanokkittika on announcing the event.
