In a united effort to support early child development services in Phuket, three Rotary Clubs from Thailand and Japan have organised workshops and donated equipment to relevant organisations on the island. The donation included kits for assessing child development at an early stage (DSPM/DAIM) and tools for countering early childhood development delays (TEDA4I).

The handover ceremony took place on Mar 28 at the Phuket Merlin Hotel. The DSPM/DAIM kits and TEDA4I kits were provided to Phuket educational and medical workers by the Rotary Club of Phuket South (Thailand), the Rotary Club of Patong Beach (Thailand), and the Rotary Club of Kushiro Bay (Japan).

The Mar 28 event was led by Phuket Vice Governor Norasak Suksomboon and the President of the Rotary Club of Phuket South, Sunee Saetan.

Other relevant officials and representatives of government and private sectors joined the event, reported the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket).

The project by the three Rotary Clubs is aimed at raising the level of early child development in Phuket, including by providing valuable knowledge and tools to educators and medical workers working with kids aged 0-5 years, explained the PR Phuket report.

This year’s effort also marks His Majesty Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) entering the revered ‘sixth cycle’ of his life as he celebrates 72 years of age on July 28.

“The total project value is B1.26 million, with the objective to enable public health personnel, teachers, and child caretakers to monitor, evaluate, and promote early childhood development using the DSPM kits, as well as have good communication skills and being able to give basic advice to parents in promoting their children’s development according to their age,” reported PR Phuket.

As part of the effort, the

Rotary Club of Phuket South (Thailand), the Rotary Club of Patong Beach (Thailand), the Rotary Club of Kushiro Bay (Japan), and the Phuket office of the Ministry of Public Health (PPHO) organised a series of workshops for relevant officials in Phuket from Dec 26, 2023, through Jan 19, 2024.

Over 170 educators and health workers at the subdistrict level underwent the training. So details of about the future phases of the project were revealed.
