ORGE eyes overseas SPP operations
OPERATING IN the electrical contracting industry for 26 years, ORGE Enerji Elektrik Taahhut AS (ORGE) plans to expand its business line with renewable energy and electric vehicle (EV ) charger manufacturing. The company is seeking opportunities in the solar power plant (SPP) contracting sector in the Balkans. Over the past 1.5 years, the firm’s rooftop and industrial SPP installations have reached 10 megawatts (MW) in Turkey.
The company has been actively seeking overseas projects, especially in the last few months, according to Mehmet Tahir Ozsoy, Head of Renewable Energy at ORGE. “There is a high demand in the Balkans. Countries such as Serbia, Montenegro, and especially Romania come to the forefront among our target markets,” said Ozsoy.
ORGE Renewable Energy Head Mehmet Tahir Ozsoy convened with economic journalists to launch ORGE’s vision and goals for the new period in Istanbul on April 17. As part of ORGE’s vision for the next 25 years, work continues to transform the firm into a green contracting and technology company. “Our electrical contracting business, which is our flagship, will continue. We maintain our work, which we started two years ago, to include renewable energy in our sectors of operation,” Ozsoy noted. This year, the company aims to reach 50 MW in rooftop and industrial SPP installations.
ORGE has focused on the Balkans and Romania, particularly due to their proximity and the assistance of the European Union (EU). Romania plans to raise its installed power to 10 gigawatts (GW) by 2030. The company plans to operate in Romania as an investor due to accreditation. Romania currently has an installed capacity of 2 GW, while numerous SPP projects have been developed and continue to be developed in the country. “The financing side is pretty easy as well in Romania. There are different lending institutions with funding in the country, and the fund for GES is allocated,” Ozsoy said, stressing that the Romanian government offers options such as purchase guarantee, sales through a deal with a factory, and sales at the free market. ORGE aims to install 20-25 MW of SPP in Romania, which it plans to expand into this year. “This figure corresponds to an investment of some EUR 10-12m. There are projects which we are evaluating in Romania,” Ozsoy highlighted.
EV CHARGING STATION TO BE LAUNCHED SOON
ORGE, which dates back to 1965 and has been working in the electrical contracting sector since 1998, has also focused on the EV charger manufacturing business. The company continues installation work for an EV charger production facility in Sancaktepe, Istanbul. Touching on the project, Ozsoy stated that work is in full flow at the facility, which will take place in the market as a product soon.
On the other hand, ORGE has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lixhium for partnership. The two firms are currently in final partnership talks. Lithium is among the EV and e-mobility ecosystem stakeholders. It provides charging station-based tariff information for charging point transactions, charging station points at home and abroad, artificial intelligence (AI) backed road planning, and services where users can share their daily needs and experiences.
