Turkish Airlines Completed 2018 with Double-Digit Growth

Turkish Airlines continued its success in the last month of 2018. The global carrier finished the year with doubledigi­t growth in passenger and cargo transport.

Turkish Airlines, which had a better year in 2018 compared to 2017 and released its latest annual results together with those of the previous year. Growth in the number of passengers, revenue per kilometer, and load factor are also important indicators of the continued growing interest in Turkey and Turkish Airlines at the end of the year.

According to the December 2018 Traffic Results:

• The total number of passengers increased by 1% reaching 5.5 million passengers compared to last December, and the load factor reached 80.2%.

• In December 2018, the total load factor increased by 0.5 points while the internatio­nal load factor increased by 0.5 points reaching 80%, while the domestic load factor reached 84%. • Internatio­nal-to-internatio­nal transfer passengers increased by nearly 3% while the number of internatio­nal passengers (excluding internatio­nalto-internatio­nal transfer passengers) increased by 8%.

• Throughout 2018, cargo/mail volume continued the double-digit growth trend and increased by 20% compared to the same period of 2017. The main contributo­rs to this growth in cargo/mail volume are North America with 33%, Africa with 33%, the Far East with 17%, and Europe with 17% increase.

• In December 2017, Africa showed a load factor growth of 2.5 points while North America, the Far East, and the Middle East showed a load factor growth of 1 point.

According to the January-December 2018 Traffic Results:

• In 2018, demand and total number of passengers increased by 10% compared to 2017. The total number of passengers reached 75.2 million.

• The total load factor increased by 3 points, reaching 82%. While the internatio­nal load factor increased by 3 points reaching 81%, the domestic load factor increased by 1 point reaching 85%.

• Excluding internatio­nal-to-internatio­nal transfer passengers, the number of internatio­nal passengers increased significan­tly by 12%.

• Compared to 2017, cargo/mail carried during 2018 increased by 25%, reaching 1.4 million tons.
