ERDOĞAN MAKES 1ST VISIT AFTER PANDEMIC TO DOHA, MEETS QATARI EMIR
MAKING his first foreign visit since the COVID-19 outbreak began, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, accompanied by his delegation, traveled to the Qatari capital Doha to meet Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Several issues, including regional and international developments, were on the two leaders’ agenda, Ankara said.
PRESIDENT Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Qatar for a daylong working visit yesterday, his first overseas trip since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The president met with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The two leaders were expected to discuss relations between the two countries.
They were also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues.
Among the delegation accompanying the president are Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın and National Intelligence Organization (MİT) head Hakan Fidan.
Turkey and Qatar have enjoyed strong relations, especially in the wake of the 2017 Gulf crisis in which Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain cut diplomatic and trade ties with their neighbor.
Turkey helped Qatar stand up to a blockade imposed by the other countries.
Erdoğan made his last international visit to Belgium on March 9, upon the invitation of the president of the European Council, Charles Michel.
