The economy takes center stage again as political parties prepare for local elections

Political parties are on the one hand engaged in alliance discussions and are in the process of determining the mayoral candidates for the local elections to be held in March 2019 while at the same spending time on economic issues. The 16 ministries have been working to fulfill the practices defined in the 100-day action plan announced by President Erdogan on August 3 that includes transport, energy, industry, foreign trade, urbanization, foreign policy, defense, education, health, agriculture, technology, tourism, youth and sports. Preparations for the second 100-day action plan, to be announced in November, have also started. The economic management team is successively announcing packages aimed at the volatility in the economy. On the other hand, the Medium Term Program is expected to be announced in the coming days.

CHP has started fieldwork

The CHP formed the “Economic Affairs Desk” within the party to keep economic problems on the agenda and to share proposals with the public. CHP leader Kilicdaroglu organized a press conference on the economy and announced a 13-item solution package, which includes a meeting of the Economic and Social Council every three months, reconstruction of the competence system in state, ensuring the rule of law, independence of the Central Bank, transitioning to hot money management, con- version to TRY in auctions, amendment to the Public Procurement Law, return of the court of accounts to international standards, termination of extra budgetary applications, change of foreign policy, attachment of borrowing to constitutional committees, tax reform, transition to production economics, and the termination of waste in the public sector. After announcing these proposals, the CHP went on the ground to explain the problems in the economy and their resolutions to the public. 69 people appointed by Kilicdaroglu began to make visits in 81 provinces. These people are coming together with representatives of non-governmental organizations, trade unions and chambers of commerce.

GOOD Party to hit ground by September 17

The GOOD party suggested the economic administration be left to competent people and the full independence of the Central Bank and the judiciary be guaranteed to resolve the deepening crisis quickly and reduce damages. Under the chairmanship of the deputy chairpersons, commissions formed by deputies and party leaders will be visiting the provinces starting from September 17. These commission members will visit the revamped party organizations in the provinces and explain the economic crisis, its reasons and solutions for the region in consulation with the NGOs and the local press.
